New Patch: Centennial Ring Emblem

There is a new patch available to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.

It is not a temporary patch and gets sewn around the World Crest emblem (the purple one on your chest). It is optional though.

[Rumor has it that Rose has ordered 60 of them for the council store! Contact her to get them!]

They are $1.49 apiece.

For fun: Anyone who leaves a comment below will be entered into a drawing for a free Centennial Ring Emblem. What do you think of the new emblem? Good idea, bad idea? Will you be wearing one? Drawing on 01 SEP 2009.

31st Annual SAC BSA Golf Tournament

The Shenandoah Area Council is sponsoring the 31st Annual Golf Tournament.

On Friday, 18 SEP 2009, at the Rock Harbor Golf Course, you and a few friends can make golf history.

$75 per person includes green fees, carts, lunch, awards, and door prizes.

Limited to first 160 golfers.

Centennial Patch Design Competition

Competition Announcement

The Shenandoah Area Council is inviting all Scouts and Scouters to submit a design for our local Centennial Celebration patch.

Submissions will be accepted at the Scout Office and at Camp Rock Enon until 15 AUG 2009.

A committee will review designs and have a graphic artist prepare final patch designs in September.

The winning designer will receive recognition for designing the patch set and a complete set of patches.

Design Requirements

Required lettering:

• “Shenandoah Area Council”

• “Centennial Celebration”

• “BSA” or BSA logo

• “1910 – 2010”

A possible working concept:

A four inch round patch with a half-inch blank space around the edge has been proposed. The central space (a three inch round) would have an embroidered design incorporating the design and wording. Each event during the centennial year would have a segment to be added to the blank half-inch rim. A CSP will also be developed using this design.

Camp Rock Enon Flu Prescreening Update

From the Emergency Preparedness merit badge requirement #2:

Do the following:

1. Discuss with your counselor the aspects of emergency preparedness:
   1. Prepare for emergency situations
   2. Respond to emergency situations
   3. Recover from emergency situations
   4. Mitigate and prevent emergency situations

In light of "being prepared", Camp Rock Enon campers and visitors will be required to complete a prescreening form for H1N1 Swine Flu prior to entering the camp.
